Chapter 24

Ember

Val and I were hand-in-hand as we walked in for dinner. He pulled out my chair and I took a seat. For once, we were the first ones here.

“I’m starving,” Asher said as he strolled in. He stood to the side and didn’t take a seat.

“Why aren’t you sitting?” I asked.

“Well, I’m not sure where my seat is anymore. Cash booted me out of my normal seat, so I had to sit next to Cinder. I don’t know if they are back together or not, so I’m just going to hang here until Cash comes and tells me what to do.”

“So, you’re going to let Cash dictate where you sit?” I asked.

“Yep. Oh, bread.” Asher grabbed a piece of bread and leaned against the wall.

“Pussy.” I shook my head and laughed.

“Cash is three times bigger than I am.”

“Four,” Val said as he poured me some wine and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Okay, four times bigger than I am, so I’m good with being a pussy.” Asher smiled before he took another bite of bread.

“What’s on the menu tonight,” Zayn asked.

“Spaghetti,” I said.

“Yum.” He took a seat across from us. “Why are you standing against the wall, Asher?”

“He’s scared of Cash,” Val said.

“Fair enough.” Zayn nodded as he poured some wine and I giggled.

Zila and Cali entered the room and Cali squealed.

“Spaghetti night! My favorite.” Cali clapped her hands as they both took a seat.

“How is your chest, Zayn?” Zila asked.

“Sore. I never realized how strong Cash’s finger is.”

“Congratulations, Cinder!” Cali grinned and I tried hard to not let any mental images of Cash’s fingers fill my brain.

“I’m being serious, it hurts.” Zayn rubbed his chest and pouted his lip.

“Oh, stop whining. Give me your hand and I will heal you.” Cali reached her hand out to Zayn.

“No. I don’t need my sister to heal me. I’m a man.” Zayn smacked his own chest, to show how strong he was. “Ow.”

“Are you sure about that, Softy?” Cali asked.

“Hey, don’t call me that.” His eyebrows furrowed at Cali.

“Why not?” she asked. “Ember calls you that.”

“Ember calls me Softy because… well, it’s not your business.”

“Ember calls him that because he is a softy,” Cash said as he and Cinder entered the room, hand-in-hand.

Everyone’s eyes landed on them, including mine. Cash was grinning ear to ear, and I was never happier to see him smile again.

“Here you go, my lady.” He pulled out her chair and bowed. She pulled up her dress and took a seat.

“Thank you, dear sir.” He scooted her seat in and sat next to her. The pure happiness on both their faces made me smile as I watched them.

“Why are you standing there, Ass?” Cash asked.

Asher sighed as he pulled out his chair and I giggled again.

“Can you pass the bread,” Val asked.

“Here you go, Val.” Zila handed the bread to him.

“What are we doing this weekend?” Cali asked.

“I don’t know. We haven’t made any plans,” Zayn said.

“It’s the third weekend of the month, so there is karaoke in Tessalone.
